The Emmaus High School boys basketball team has had a difficult stretch to start the 2024-25 regular season. The Green Hornets have lost their first five games, but three of which came by less than two points.
In an opening season tip-off tournament at Wilkes-Barre Area High School on the final weekend of November, Emmaus lost to Wilkes-Barre 63-61 and then dropped a game with Holy Redeemer 46-45 the next day.
Emmaus had a fourth-quarter comeback fall just short against the Wolfpack. The Hornets trailed by double digits, 19-6, after the first quarter and then 27-17 at halftime. Behind 54-41 heading into the fourth, Emmaus went on a 20-9 run, but could not finish the job in the end.
Jack Csensits totaled 18 points. Owen Hafner netted nine points and both Mike Rooney and Chase Whitesell added seven points, while Jacob Ross contributed six.
In the game with the Vikings, Emmaus once again had a slow first quarter and was outscored 22-8. Mike Rooney led his team with 21 points, Hafner netted 11 points and Csensits had nine.
Against the Blue Eagles, Emmaus fell behind 18-15 after the opening quarter and then it was a defensive battle in the second quarter as the teams combined for just six points and the Hornets were behind 20-19 at halftime. Nazareth responded with a 23-19 third quarter and then held on late to secure the win.
Csensits led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Matthew Deschenes scored 11 points. Rooney tallied eight points.
Emmaus (0-5 overall, 0-2 EPC) has conference games against Allen this past Tuesday and against East Stroudsburg North on Friday, both on the road.
