Dec. 18

The Emmaus Historical Society Christmas Covered Dish Party at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus, will be held 5:30 p.m. Doors open 5 p.m. Call the museum with how many will be attending and if you will bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert. The society will supply the main dish. Appetizers will be available for snacking and visiting before dinner. Holiday music by Woodside Avenue will be provided. Bring a new scarf, hat, gloves or socks for the “help those in need” holiday project! Members and nonmembers are welcome. Wear your favorite Christmas sweater. Nonmembers are asked to become a new member to dine.

Lehigh Valley Health Network Rehabilitation Services will offer a free fall prevention and balance event 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the LVHN Health Center at Trexlertown, 6900 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown. The program is designed to educate about and help decrease risk of falls. LVHN physical therapists will conduct balance screenings to determine whether a more in-depth assessment will be beneficial. Wildlands Conservancy is scheduled to host its Winter Solstice Snowshoe Stroll event at the Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus, noon to 1:30 p.m. The event is designed for those 6 years old and older. Highlights will include a guided hike, a bird feeder craft and warm refreshments. There is a cost and registration closes Dec. 19. The Get Out for Wellness series, in partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network, hosts a free sightseeing hike in downtown Bethlehem 10 a.m. to noon. The itinerary includes a walk through Nisky Hill Cemetery, a visit to “God’s Little Acre” cemetery to find headstones dating to the 1740s and stops at the Nain House, Hotel Bethlehem and Central Moravian Church. Hikers are encouraged to dress in layers and wear comfortable walking shoes. Dogs are not allowed in the two cemeteries. Participants will park near the Ice House, 56 River St., Bethlehem. The Get Out For Wellness series offers the “GOFW Stone Soup Stroll” 10 a.m. to noon at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Emmaus. Hikers will explore the trails of the sanctuary and help cook a “stone soup” by bringing an ingredient for the vegetarian or meat soup options. Participants may bring a vegetable, canned or fresh, to add to the soups or bring rolls for dipping and dunking in the soup. The soup will be made over open fires on the sanctuary campus. Lehigh Valley Health Network will host public CPR classes offering lifesaving skills at the George E. Moerkirk Emergency Medicine Institute training center at Lehigh Valley Health Network. Certified instructors will teach hands-on techniques, including chest compressions and rescue breaths, to help participants confidently respond in emergency situations, such as choking emergencies. All classes are held 6-10 p.m. at LVHN-Mack Boulevard, 2100 Mack Blvd., Allentown. Registration is required.
