Alburtis police report 32 truck stops in November
Alburtis Borough Council met for its regular meeting Dec. 11 where all members of council were present. Mayor Kathleen Palmer, Borough Manager Stephen Nemeth, Police Chief Tony Alsleben and representatives from the borough’s legal and engineering teams were also in attendance.
There were no public comments.
During the mayor’s report, Palmer announced the burn ban and water restrictions will be lifted Dec. 15. She also thanked council members and all attendees who were at the borough’s tree lighting ceremony.
Next, the police department delivered its monthly report, highlighting recent crime statistics. There were 32 truck stops throughout November, showing a continuous effort to maintain truck traffic in the area.
Council unanimously approved the minutes of the Nov. 25 meeting and authorized the payment of borough bills dating back to the previous meeting, totaling $77,143.89. The treasurer’s report provided an overview of the borough’s financial health.
The borough engineer’s report was next approved without comment or discussion. Following, the Macungie Ambulance Corps sent a report on their operations, showcasing seven calls to Alburtis throughout the month of November.
Council adopted Resolution No. 2024-17, officially appointing an independent auditor, Christopher Basile, to review the borough’s financial statements. Discussion followed on a correspondence letter from Barry Isett & Associates, Inc., which addressed the increased rates for 2025, stating this is due to continuous rising costs.
Council also reviewed communications from the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission which stated the Southwest Lehigh Multi-Municipal Plan website would be shut down Dec. 31. This does not mean the plan is ending; however, web operations will no longer be maintained, unless they find someone to manage the website on a new server.
As the year draws to a close, Nemeth closed the meeting by announcing plans for a holiday luncheon to recognize and celebrate borough staff for their hard work throughout 2024.
The council adjourned after ensuring all agenda items were addressed. The next meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. Dec. 23.
