NHS girls looking to bounce back

After they had an uncharacteristic 6-16 record last season, Northampton’s girls’ basketball team is looking to get back into the mix as a perennial contender this winter.

The Konkrete Kids went through a transition year last season with a number of new faces in their rotation. They began to jell and mature, but they dropped five of their last seven games down the stretch.

This season, the Kids will have senior starters guards Anne Beenders and Jenna Raysley return in the backcourt, and junior Isabella Pecuch will be back up front.

Veteran head coach Jeff Jacksits is confident his trio can help set the pace for his club.

Beenders averaged 9.4 points last year, while Raysley notched a 4.9 clip. Pecuch brought a 4.4 average.

“We have the three starters back, so we are hoping that their experience will lead us to a more successful season than we had last year,” noted Jacksits. “We will look to Beenders, Raysley, and Pecuch to lead us.

For the Kids, it will begin with Beenders, who has been a contributor since his freshman year.

“Anne is probably one of the top five point guards in the league,” beamed Jacksits. “She was an EPC (East Penn Conference) divisional all-star last year. She has been working hard to improve on that award.”

Raysley and Pecuch have made strides since the summer.

“Jenna and Isabella both worked hard in the offseason,” noted Jacksits. “Their work and effort hopefully will translate into more wins next season.”

Juniors Abby Luipersbeck and Rosalie Echevarria likely open the season as the two remaining starters.

“We like the makeup of our club,” he said. “We will look to develop our rotation as the season goes along. But we have a number of younger players who should be able to help us.”

Jacksits is optimistic that he will see consistent growth along the way. The Kids opened the season hosting Easton Monday, and then they met Dieruff Thursday.

“Our goal is to see continued player development, leadership, and team unity as the season progresses,” he said. “We will look to have the girls fill some new roles.”

Anne Beenders is back for the Northampton girls this season and will help to lead the way on the courts this season.
