Bethlehem Catholic struggled to find their footing during an 8-14 campaign a year ago, but the Hawks hope this season can produce better results in Scott McClary’s seventh season with the program.
Despite losing 12 players from last year team, McClary believes this team can push for a spot in the postseason.
“We are not young in age, but very young in experience,” said McClary. “I think this could be a team that works to find it’s way through the first third of the season (toughest part of our schedule too) and then settles in nicely for the second half.”
Back for the Hawks is the trio of Ethan Roman (Sr, Guard), Laz Carrasquilla (Sr, Forward) and Jackson Wickenheiser (Jr, Guard).
McClary hopes that junior Marcus Drysdale will return from injury at some point in January after missing all of last season as well.
Newcomers looking to fill major roles include Jack Rushe (Sr, Wing); Djibril Sylla (Sr, Wing); Parker McClary (Jr, Guard); Sammy Barona Jr. (Jr, Wing); Brodie Muir (Jr, Guard) and Roman Jackson (Jr, Wing).
“We are not very big, and perhaps less talented than past years, but we are very skilled, versatile, and a smart team,” said McClary. “We will play a very different offensive style with this group that I think will be fun to watch. If Drysdale returns or not from his second ACL injury in as many years will determine a lot about our ceiling.”
Ethan Roman is a key returning player for the Bethlehem Catholic boys basketball team.
