Jean Mae (Sell) Oswald

formerly of Alburtis

Jean Mae (Sell) Oswald, 87, a resident of Rittenhouse Village at Lehigh Valley, died peacefully Dec. 7, 2024, in Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit, surrounded by her family. A former Alburtis resident, she was the wife of the late Allen A. Oswald who died Jan. 30, 2021. They were married for 63 years.

Born in Emmaus, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Woodrow Wilson Sell and Mary Young Moser Sell. She was a 1955 graduate of Emmaus High School, where she was an MVP of the basketball team, member of the gym team and a majorette. She worked at the probation office at Lehigh County Courthouse and later became a homemaker.

She was a previous member of Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown. She was involved in the construction of the Alburtis Area Swimming Pool, a den mother for Alburtis Pack 86 Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Leader for Alburtis Camp Fire Girls. She was a past member of the Alburtis-Lockridge Historical Society for more than 18 years. She was a life member of Nimrod Fish & Wildlife Association, Alburtis.

For 22 years, she spent half of each year at their summer home in Susquehanna County with her husband. Here they enjoyed, fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time with their family.

She is survived by sons, Allen II and his wife, Katie, of Friendsville, Matthew and his wife, Abigail, of Alburtis, daughter, Ellen and her husband, Sterling Quier, of Yuma, Ariz.; sisters, Elinor Gollie and Linda Reinbold; brothers, Arthur, Kenneth, Dale, Ronald and Dennis; grandsons, Ryan, Allen III (Valerie), Scott Quier, Kevin (Christine) Quier; granddaughter, Aubree (Andrew) Miller; great-grandchildren, James, Shawn, Delia Quier, Alexis Quier, Olivia Quier.

She was predeceased by a brother, Carl.

Services will be private at Longswamp Union Cemetery. Schmoyer Funeral Home, Breinigsville, is handling the arrangements.
