Bath kicks off holiday season
Bath Borough held its annual holiday tree-lighting ceremony Dec. 1 at Monocacy Creek Park. The well-attended gathering featured an award, guest speakers, a touching rendition of the national anthem, holiday carols, baked goods, hot chocolate, free horse-drawn carriage rides and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus.
Joseph Andrews, a longtime community volunteer, was the recipient of the Northampton County Outstanding Senior Award. Andrews expressed appreciation for the borough he has called home for decades. As a reward for his distinct designation, Andrews was given the honor of flipping the switch that lit up the holiday tree.
The national anthem was sung by Charlotte Raynor, and holiday carols were performed by George Wolf Elementary School students. The choral group received a warm applause for its singing performance.
Hot chocolate and cookies were sponsored by Mayor Fiorella Reginelli Mirabito. The treats were served by Cub Pack 33. On the cold evening, the hot chocolate was appreciated by attendees. Girl Scout Troop 8361’s baked goods were also available.
Attendees lined up to enjoy horse and carriage rides, which were available 5-7 p.m.
Most of Bath Borough Council and other dignitaries were on hand at the event. Speakers included Northampton County Councilman Tom Giovanni and Bath Borough Council President Frank Hesch, who also served as the master of ceremonies. Pastors from the Lutheran and Catholic churches in Bath also shared inspirational words.
When Santa arrived, the kids shared their Christmas gift requests as family members snapped pictures.
Although the weather was cold, the evening was a warm gathering of friendship and goodwill. It was a great way to kick off the holiday season in Bath.
