Inexperienced LHS squad looks to build

Liberty will have plenty of new faces on the wrestling mat this season. How long it takes them to get up to speed with the varsity wrestling scene will be an indicator of the type of year the Hurricanes can have under head coach Brandon Hall.

After losing 13 seniors from last year’s squad, Hall has a new crop of Hurricanes ready to make names for themselves.

“Having graduated 13 kids last year, we lack experience but not work ethic,” he said. “We will look for these young new wrestlers to take some lumps but improve as the season progresses.”

Back for Liberty are Elijah Heimbach (So., 107); Jasiah Pagan (Sr., 114/121); JT Solano (So., 127); Ben Miller (So., 133); Ben Reid (So., 145) and Daniel Rivera (Jr., 170).

Newcomers include Ben Jebron-Cruz (Fr., 190) Anthony Martin (Fr., 190) and Jason Doughty (F., 215).

Pagan figures to lead the ‘Canes when tournament time rolls around coming off a 24-win season last year where he finished sixth in the district. Heimbach and Miller are two other wrestlers Hall is looking to see take jumps in their sophomore campaigns.

Liberty opens the season on Dec. 4 against Dieruff.
