Pennsylvania Youth Theatre’s got a new home

Realtor Lucy H. Lennon, owner of Main Street Real Estate Group, arranged for the Pennsylvania Youth Theatre (PYT) to buy the former Light of Christ Lutheran Church and renovate it as its new home. The church, located at 2020 Worthington Ave., is one of three churches that Lehigh University had purchased for $3.75 million last February. The other two are St. Peter’s and St. John’s Windish. The transaction was completed last month.

Lennnon said PYT has been looking for a new home since its current landlord, the Banana Factory arts and education center on Bethlehem’s south side, is set to be razed. PYT, which offers drama, voice and dance classes as well as a summer camp for children ages 3-18, hopes to open in its new location at the end of January. The new location on Bethlehem’s northside is approximately three miles from its current location.

Lennon said she had been quietly working with PYT and with Lehigh University for a while and is excited that she was able to make this deal happen.

“Both PYT and Lehigh are happy with the reuse of the church building for this purpose,” she said.

The purchase price was not disclosed.
