Bethlehem edges Allentown in Turkey Bowl

The fourth annual Turkey Bowl flag football game between the Bethlehem and Allentown police departments went down to the wire Nov. 3, with Bethlehem FOP Lodge 20 members securing a 33 to 32 win over their Allentown FOP Lodge 10 counterparts. The game was played in the Bethlehem Area School District Stadium before dozens of friends and family members from both cities.

Bethlehem’s 20 to 18 halftime lead withstood Allentown’s 14 to 13 edge in the second half as the BPD secured the win by running out the clock to end the game. Each half ran 25 minutes with the clock stopped only during the final two minutes of each half.

The BPD’s victory evened the four year series at two games apiece.

Game officials from the PIAA Carbon County Chapter were Joe Greco, Dan Smelas and Len Hardy. Mike Raymond, from Lehigh Valley Sports Radio announced the game.

Business support was provided by the Borderline Restaurant, Little Caesar’s, Pat’s Pizza Bistro, Wiz Kidz and Morganelli Properties.
