Big changes are underway in Whitehall-Coplay School District. A new superintendent has been found, following the August resignation announcement of Dr. Robert Steckel.
School board President William Fonzone noted in a recent email that former assistant to the superintendent, Christopher Schiffert, will step up and take on the role of superintendent. He served as the assistant to the superintendent for about eight years and previously worked as the principal at Whitehall High School for six years.
“Mr. Schiffert emerged as the best candidate during a rigorous interview process among a very qualified group of potential candidates for the position of superintendent,” Fonzone’s email said. “Mr. Schiffert was chosen by the board because of our understanding he was the best person to carry on the successful path of leadership and growth for our school district started by Dr. Steckel and the rest of the team, including everyone in the district.”
Schiffert has been working in public education since 1999, serving as a teacher, assistant principal and principal at Easton High School.
“Please congratulate Chris in his new position as superintendent of the Whitehall-Coplay School District,” Fonzone’s email concluded.
Families and school district staff will be updated as more details become available.
