EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My parents are Ryan Durkin and Dr. Jennifer Barron. I have four cats who are Pablo, Bonita, Furgueson and Lulu.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is physics and I am currently in Physics 2 AP. The class is difficult and has beat me down but I am always interested in it and fascinated by how physics shapes the world we live in.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have earned honor roll many times and have made it to team districts in boys tennis.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. Last year I was involved in the yearbook and astronomy club which were both fantastic. This year I plan to jump back into the astronomy club. I have to say the yearbook was something special last year because I got to work with other students and learned how to interview people. Spending more time after school for a club helps you meet other people and become more immersed in our school’s atmosphere.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. Physics 2 AP is a ridiculously difficult class for me and is the most difficult class I have ever taken.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. I would like to attend college and give it a shot at engineering. If that doesn’t work out I will pursue economics.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with an historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. I would spend an evening talking to John Lennon from the Beatles to learn what it meant to fight for peace and civil rights. I would ask about his story and what drove him and The Beatles to not just be a band but a cultural icon that influenced so many.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. Spontaneous, adventurous and living in the moment.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Stick in there and pursue your passions because if you fail you know you still tried which is more than if you never tried in the first place.
