EHS inducts latest National Honor Society members
The Emmaus High School National Honor Society welcomed 205 new members in a ceremony held in the auditorium Nov. 15.
National Honor Society members who are also in the Emmaus Chorale opened the induction ceremony by singing the national anthem.
EHS Principal Beth Guarriello welcomed the inductees and their families.
NHS President Brayden Dang introduced the other officers with each one speaking about one of the four pillars of National Honor Society.
Vice President Michael Creelman spoke about the pillar of scholarship while Secretary Melanie Lin spoke to the inductees about character. Treasurer Manasvi Kukade explained to the inductees the pillar of service and Dang completed the last pillar in speaking about leadership.
EHS Math teacher Sarah Kinzel encouraged the inductees to “question everything.” Kinzel also advised the inductees to follow the words of Mahatma Gandhi stating, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service to others.”
Kinzel encouraged the inductees to show strength and persistence in their leadership but to also be “compassionate leaders.” She also reminded the inductees “true character is being able to accept responsibility when we fail.”
Kinzel supported the inductees by sharing examples of each of the four pillars.
The induction program is organized and run by the students in National Honor Society. Each of the four officers took turns announcing the names of the inductees to come forward to receive their certificates. Current members of NHS escorted the inductees from the audience to the stage.
Once all inductees were recognized individually on stage, Dang led them in reciting the NHS Pledge with lighted candles.
The students and officers are advised by Diane DiDona.
Refreshments were provided for the students and their guests in the cafeteria following the ceremony. Senior Orchestra members Brighton Yu, Colby Zheng, Nicholas Maroun and Samuel Dougherty performed for the event.
