Edward J. Ortelli OLPH member; awarded Purple Heart

Edward J. Ortelli, 94, of Newark, Ohio, died Nov. 21, 2024, at his home, Courtyard of Newark, under the care of Hospice. Born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Edward and Frances (Duffy) Ortelli. He was the husband of the late Jean Hays Ortelli for 44 years and then of the late Bella Ortelli for 23 years.

He was a 1957 Phillipsburg Catholic HS graduate and later attended Perkiomen Prep.

He was a U.S. Marine veterans who served in the Korean War. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

He graduate in 1956 with a dgree in business administration from Villanova University, where he played football. An accountant for various companies, he retired from Waverly Witco Oil Company in 1994.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Bethlehem.

He was a member of Rotary International and Knights of Columbus, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight and a Grand Knight.

He is survived by two sons, Edward (Michelle) Ortelli of St. Augustine and Timothy (Tracy) Or-telli of Tarpon Springs, all of Florida; two daughters, Susan Byrne of Worthington and Debra (Scott) Cartnal of Newark, all of Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Kelsey (Erik) Katz, Alex Ortelli, Bethany (Sam) Badders, Andrew Ortelli, Olivia Ortelli, Marissa (Raymond) Parker, Colleen (Theo) Pinson, Reid Cartnal, Alison Cartnal and Bryce Cartnal; and five great-grandchildren, Alana and Jaylen Pinson, Ayla Parker, Evelyn Badders and Holiday Katz.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Ortelli; and a sister, Anna Ortelli Haney.

Arrangements were made by Connell Funeral Home Inc., Bethlehem.
