Stanchock looks to make a difference vs. Catty
Simply put, Northampton’s Owen Stanchock enjoys football.
Since Stanchock began playing the game at the age of four, he managed to make his mark all over the field.
“My football career began at NAA when I was 4-years-old,” stated Stanchock. “My confidence built over the years as I scored touchdowns, kicked field goals, and made tackles. When I step on the field, I am 100-percent committed to my team. Nothing else gets in the way.”
This season, Stanchock’s vigor for the game has remained the same. Since Week 2 of the season, Stanchock has led the team in tackles with 98 (61 solo, 37 assisted) from his middle linebacker position, and he also saw time at running back. He also had one sack, seven tackles for loss, six pressures, and one forced fumble.
Head coach John Toman has watched the 6-0, 200-pound junior develop into one of the team’s most consistent performers.
“Owen did not begin the season as a starter, but he got the opportunity in the second week of the season, when we were behind against East Stroudsburg South,” noted Toman. “He made some big plays when he had the chance, and he seized the moment and opportunity.
“Owen worked hard in the offseason to increase his speed, strength, and size. He is part of a junior class that has had success at every level.”
Like he has through the years, Stanchock has relished every moment. The Konkrete Kids’ 21-20 victory over Bethlehem Catholic this season will be a lifelong memory.
“I have always played both sides of the ball, mainly as a running back, but this year I started as a middle linebacker where I feel in control of the game,” stressed Stanchock. “One of the most memorable games of the season was against Beca with a final score of 21-20. In that game, I blocked a field goal and had a crucial fourth down tackle.”
Stanchock is anxious for this year’s Thanksgiving Day showdown against Catasauqua after he enjoyed last year’s win in the 100th game of the series.
He thanked the constant support and guidance of defensive coordinator Phil Reigle.
“Coach Reigle has had the biggest influence on me, giving me confidence and always boosting me up,” beamed Stanchock. “I have a circle of supporters who have helped me build determination that I show on the football field today.”
Beyond Thanksgiving, Stanchock is anticipating a strong senior season, especially after the Kids’ first season in the new Northampton Division of the East Penn Conference.
“Northampton had split wins and losses in the new division, which we hope to improve next year during my senior season,” said Stanchock. “I especially would love to get a big ‘W’ against Parkland my senior year.
“My passion and dedication for the sport will make for a memorable final senior season.”
Stanchock certainly will make sure of it.
