Water restrictions in place in Alburtis

Alburtis Borough Council met Nov. 13 to discuss a range of municipal matters.

A monthly police report was provided which noted criminal activity within the borough. Additionally, Police Chief Tony Alsleben received approval from council for a necessary small equipment purchase.

Council approved the minutes of the Oct. 30 meeting, the treasurer’s report, as well as the bills for payment. The bills for payment totaled $190,733.91.

In the borough engineer’s report, Mike Preston provided updates on current projects, noting steady progress on infrastructure improvements, as well as assuring that engineering fees are closely monitored.

In administration matters, representatives from Jaindl Land Company were in attendance for a zoning map amendment to Lot 85 and Lot 86, which is in the Hills at Lockridge along Scenic View Drive. They would like to change the zoning from industrial to residential. This was denied in January because of stormwater concerns in that area. This new plan reduces the number of single-family homes planned to be constructed by Jaindl and addresses stormwater concerns.

Council did not make a decision on Jaindl’s zoning map amendment request for Lots 85 and 86; however, an ordinance will be drawn and presented to council at a later meeting. Once the ordinance is submitted, council will need to review it, which will be followed by a public hearing. No action can be taken until the above-mentioned action items are completed.

A proposal by Ott Consulting and Entech for the installation of a new pressure-reducing valve was also approved, a move designed to improve the borough’s water system efficiency.

In light of the ongoing drought conditions, council passed Ordinance 590, restricting certain water uses within Alburtis for the duration of the drought emergency. This ordinance is intended to conserve water and mitigate the impact of reduced water levels in the borough.

Council also authorized a new trap-neuter-return contract with No Nonsense Neutering, aiming to address the community’s stray cat population in a humane and effective manner, promoting animal welfare and reducing local feral cat numbers.

After an executive session focused on personnel matters, council returned to pass Resolution No. 2024-16, officially terminating the employment of Employee Number 600. Following this action, council adjourned, with all items on the agenda having been addressed and approved.

Alburtis Borough Council’s next meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. Nov. 27 at Alburtis Borough Hall, 260 Franklin St.
