Sewer facilities planning module approved for 6130 Sauerkraut Lane
During the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting Nov. 7, the commissioners approved the sewage facilities planning module for the 6130 Sauerkraut Lane subdivision. This subdivision is located on Sauerkraut between Mill Creek Road and Willow Lane. The proposed development will create two new residential units and a renovated barn building. It is a 22-acre tract of land to be divided into three lots.
A resident spoke about speeding around a day care center near his residence on Stein Way in Macungie. The resident has presented this to the township on prior occasions. A traffic study was done but there is not a problem according to the study. A second study was requested with the same results.
A third study has been requested as the resident still considers this problem to be a safety concern for his neighborhood as well as the day care. The day care used to have a Halloween parade but has canceled it due to safety concerns.
The concern presently is about lack of response. The township said the request for another study has been received and is being addressed with no answers. The resident has been assured when the study has been completed, he will be contacted.
The 2025 budget draft was discussed. The main topic discussed is there is no sewer or tax increase. The formal reading of the budget will be at the Nov. 21 board of commissioners meeting.
Discussions about township parks was a topic. There are 29 parks within the township. It can be a bit tough to maintain all parks in pristine order. Commissioner Brian Higgins said the budget for the township parks is not as lucrative as Upper Macungie but that township has a significant amount of warehouses which helps add to their budget.
There will be proposed tax workshop meetings in the new year. These meeting ideas are to help educate the public on the taxing within the township. Taxes such as property tax, income tax and open space will be discussed.
There was an executive session held following the meeting about personnel issues.
