At the Nov. 7 Northampton Borough Council meeting, council approved resolutions to address a potential multimillion-dollar project to renovate a former bank at 21st and Main streets. The project reportedly represents a step forward in developing a stronger business climate.
Council passed resolutions 13-24 and 14-24 to have the borough serve as the public sector applicant for the Main Street Matters grant program of the Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development for district development grants to support the renovation and for accessible housing grants, respectively.
Northampton Mayor Anthony Pristash thanked council for the unanimous votes for the program. The plan is to have retail establishments on the first floor and rental apartments above. Pristash noted businesses are attracted to Northampton because of its business-friendly climate.
The next council meeting is planned for 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at the municipal building, 1401 Laubach Ave. It is a hybrid meeting. Visit northamptonboro.com to view the meeting virtually.
