On July 11, Gov. Josh Shapiro signed Act 55, a bill providing funds to schools to supply free menstrual products, into law. On Nov. 5, East Penn School District Community Liason Laura Groh sent an email to all Emmaus High School students informing them that with the funds from this grant, EHS is now able to supply free menstrual products to students.
Individual menstrual kits will be available in the health room, main office, school counseling offices and health/gym offices, according to Groh’s email.
Students with questions or concerns can reach out to the school nurse.
Emmaus High School’s Interact Club, a community-focused service organization, is once again holding its annual food drive for families in need in the East Penn School District. They will collect cans of fruit — preferably 14 ounce — outside Room 216 up until Dec. 12.
Students may contact Amy Kaunitz at akaunitz@eastpennsd.org with any questions or concerns regarding the food drive.
Students taking the highly competitive United States of America Biology Olympiad examination are invited to join the Biology Olympiad Club, dedicated to preparing for the difficult test.
The club meets after school every other Tuesday in Room 112 and will cover subjects like biology, anatomy, environmental science and other topics relating to biology. Club members also meet every Monday during homeroom in the same room.
If students have any questions they can contact science teacher and adviser Zachary LaBar at zlabar@eastpennsd.org.
EHS will continue to hold several “Student Wellness Groups” in the second marking period in the multimedia room beginning Dec. 4.
These groups, run by the “Communities in Schools” program, are intended to provide spaces for students to grow and learn skills crucial to mental, emotional and social well-being. Groups running this marking period include: “Healthy Relationships,” focusing on growing and maintaining relationships with family, friends and partners, meeting 8:30-9:15 a.m. every Wednesday; “Study Skills,” teaching note-taking, testing, stress management and more strategies, 9:30-10:15 a.m. every Wednesday; “Teen Issues,” focusing on a variety of topics including anxiety, depression, maintaining healthy boundaries and more, 11:40 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. every Wednesday; “Conflict Resolution,” dedicated to explaining anger management skills, 12:40-1:25 p.m. every Wednesday and “Art for Relaxation,” serving as a stress management through art session, 1:45-2:25 p.m. every Wednesday. The “Art for Relaxation” session is limited to 10 students and will only run for four weeks. Students can register using the link located in the “Class of” Schoology page.
EHS will have an 11 a.m. dismissal Nov. 27 and be closed Nov. 28-29 for Thanksgiving break.
