Hokendauqua: First Presbyterian chili cook-off winners announced

First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua thanks everyone who came to the community chili cook-off dinner and contest. Approximately 80 to 90 guests were in attendance, including six judges who awarded prizes and seven Whitehall High School student volunteers.

The winners are as follows.

Chili cook-off contest judged by panel — Simply Smooth Catering, first place; Liesel Miksits, second place; Joanne Matthews, third place; and Cathy’s Creative Catering Cafe, Fairview Catering and O’Brien’s Really Good Food Company, honorable mentions

People’s choice awards — Samuel Owens, first place; Joanne Matthews, second place; and Simply Smooth Catering, third place

First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua will participate in an ecumenical Thanksgiving service, to be held 7 p.m. Nov. 25 at Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua. Many churches are coming together to hold this event.

Before the service, there will be a “breads and spreads” fellowship time starting 6 p.m.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mickleys, will have pictures with Santa, crafts and snacks 1-4 p.m. Dec. 1 at the church, 2918 MacArthur Road.

Congratulations to the church on its 175th anniversary!

Whitehall Township will hold its annual tree lighting 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road. This free event will also feature a special guest — Santa!

Hokendauqua Athletic Association is partnering with Cementon Park and Playground to sponsor breakfast with Santa from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Cementon park pavilion, 5185 Dewey St. There is a cost.
