Coplay: Association to hold tree lighting Dec. 5

Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association has planned its annual Christmas tree lighting for 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at Coplay Municipal Building, 98 S. Fourth St. Tom Yurasits Productions will have a brand-new magic and illusion show. Meet and greet Santa Claus, who never misses this family event.

The event promises to be spectacular with Christmas magic!

The eighth annual borough Christmas party will honor the life and legacy of the late Steve Burker, former mayor, Dec. 6 at the American Club of Coplay pavilion.

Doors open 5 p.m., and the kitchen opens 5:30 p.m. Deejay Freddy Frederick will entertain 5-7 p.m., and Subject To Changes plays 7-10 p.m.

The bar will be open for beer, red and white wine, rum and vodka (no bring your own).

A basket raffle is also part of the event.

There is a cost. Purchase tickets at Samuel Owens Restaurant and Bar, Coplay Eatery, Reph’s Complete Auto and borough hall.

Regarding his future efforts to increase resident involvement in the borough, new Coplay mayor and community activist Joseph Bundra said, “I will approach people to explain what we need to get and recruit them to have them involved in Coplay.”

Hometown Hero banner applications are available at the borough office. Publicly honor your war heroes and first responders — police officers, firefighters and ambulance personnel — with a banner.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the lower level of the municipal building, is open 8:30-10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month. If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.

The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.
