During the Coplay Borough Council meeting Nov. 12, council approved the first reading of the 2025 general fund budget and approved the secretary/treasurer to advertise the special meeting, final budget reading and the ordinance setting the tax rates for the 2025 budgets.
The final vote on the 2025 budget is expected at a special meeting 6 p.m. Dec. 16.
Council also approved the appointment of auditor Kirk and Summa to audit the 2024 Coplay Borough financial statements.
In other business, the Coplay Community Days committee was approved to lease the Community Plaza property for $250 from Nov. 22 to Jan. 31, 2025.
Explorer Post 101 was also approved to hold a holiday open house Dec. 14-Jan. 5, 2025.
A one- to two-day closure of Eighth and Maple streets to Wall Street for Verizon to place a crane for projected work on a monopole was approved.
Coplay Sports was granted permission to use the gymnasium in the municipal building 5-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 5-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Other approvals included the services addition of Keystone Technologies, annual donation of $500 to Coplay Sports, return of 75% street opening escrow funds to UGI for the completed Front and Second streets project in the amount of $313,300, accepting of bids to sell Coplay Fire Department’s 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, October treasurer’s report, bills submitted to council and the police, fire, health and building inspector reports.
Council authorized Solicitor John Harrison to conduct a personnel investigation.
Coplay Borough Council will next meet 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.
