Annual craft/vendor fair scheduled Nov. 23

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The library will be closed Nov. 28-30 for the Thanksgiving holiday and Dec. 6 for staff development.

There will be a Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years 10-11 a.m. Nov. 20.

“Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” Game Night for grade 3 to adult will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Nov. 21.

The Alburtis Afternoon Book Club will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Nov. 21 to discuss “The Rose Code” by Kate Quinn. The book for Dec. 19 is “The Downstairs Girl” by Stacey Lee. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Area Community Center, 220 W. Second St., Alburtis.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 22 and Dec. 13. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

There will be a Video Game Club meeting for grades 2-12 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 25 and Dec. 16.

A Voice for All: Tear Down This Wall will meet 1-2:30 p.m. Nov. 25. This adult discussion group will focus on the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

There will be a movie matinee for adults 2-4 p.m. Nov. 26 featuring the movie “Casablanca” and “Sabrina” 2-4 p.m. Dec. 2.

Creative Crafts for ages preschool-grade 5 will be held 3:30-4:30 p.m. Nov. 26 and Dec. 10 at Alburtis Area Community Center.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 26.

There will be a youth movie “Chow Down with Garfield,” rated PG, 1:30-3 p.m. Nov. 27.

There will be a Sonic & Mario Party for youth and teens 5-6 p.m. Dec. 2.

Get in the Game for all ages will meet 6-8 p.m. Dec. 3 to play games.

There will be a Sensory Movie Matinee 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 3 and 17 for adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon Dec. 4 is “The Book of Longings: A Novel” by Sue Monk Kidd. The book club meets virtually.

Chit Chat & Craft Adult Craft Night will meet 6-8 p.m. Dec. 5 for Pinecone Gnomes.

Books & Beyond will meet 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at Panera Bread in Trexlertown to discuss books, music, movies, life and more. The next meeting will be a book discussion Jan. 13, 2025.

A Voice for All: Human Rights will be held 1-2:30 p.m. Dec. 10. This is a discussion group for adults. Attendees are encouraged to research the topic.

A Sensory Game Day is planned 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 10 for adults with disabilities and their caregivers.

Children and families are invited to view “Polar Express” 6-7:45 p.m. Dec. 10.

There will be a Winter Wonderland Party for children 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 14.

A family movie matinee 1:30-3 p.m. Dec. 20 will feature the movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Builder’s Brigade for grades K-5 will meet 5-6 p.m. Dec. 19 to create with Lego, K’NEX, Lincoln Logs and more.

The 14th annual Craft/Vendor Fair will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Lower Macungie Community Center, 3450 Brookside Road. More than 100 crafters and vendors will be participating. Food is available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Concordia Lutheran Church will hold a Thanksgiving Eve service 7 p.m. Nov. 27 with a pie festival immediately following.

The 96th Annual Sheeprock Trek and Thanksgiving Sunrise Service will leave promptly at 5:45 a.m. Nov. 28 (yes, Thanksgiving morning) from the Macungie Volunteer Fire Department, 31 S. Walnut Street.

Macungie Boy Scout Troop 71 will light the way up Macungie Mountain where there will be a brief Thanksgiving sunrise service. Hot chocolate and doughnuts will be served at the end of the hike.

The event is coordinated by the Macungie Historical Society. Hikers should be prepared with flashlights, gloves and hiking boots. In the event of inclement weather, the sunrise service will be held at the Macungie Volunteer Fire Department starting at 5:45 a.m. For more information, call the Macungie Historical Society at 610-965-0372.

The film, “The Fries Rebellion,” can be seen at the Bartholomew Center for the Preservation of Lower Macungie Township History at Camp Olympic barn 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon Dec. 3 for Christmas dinner catered by Kremmer’s Catering. Tickets are required. Lori Woodward will entertain with Christmas music. Elections will also be held.

The Lower Macungie Tree Lighting Celebration will be held 6-8 p.m. Dec. 6 at the community Center. The tree lighting will take place 7 p.m. There will be live music, kids’ crafts, photo opportunities and food trucks. Lower Macungie Fire Department will be partnering with the township for this event.

The Lower Macungie Historical Society will hold a holiday open house at the log house at the Wescosville Recreation Center 3-5 p.m. Dec. 8. Luminaria will light the pathway. There will be a fire in the hearth, homemade cookies, tours and live harp music. The museum will be closed that day.

The Lower Macungie Fire Department will hold its annual Santa Run in Alburtis and Lower Macungie Township Dec. 14 starting 1 p.m. The rain date is Dec. 15.

The Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon Dec. 5 for its Christmas party in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall at Macungie Memorial Park. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon Dec. 18 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. There will be a potluck buffet lunch followed by a meeting and bingo. There is a small charge. Bring a covered dish. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners and staff are holding the 19th Annual Troop Support Program to collect items to send to township residents in the armed forces who won’t be home for the holidays.

To register a loved one in the holiday program, call 610-966-6924 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Donations of food, toiletry items, batteries, magazines and more will be accepted at the community center through Nov. 27. A list of acceptable donations is available at the community center.

The community center will collect children’s new pajamas and books during the fall and holiday season. Items will be donated to Lehigh County Children and Youth Services. Collection bins are in the lobby through Dec. 27.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours for November and December are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Curbside leaf collection continues through Nov. 29. Leaves should be at the curb before 7 a.m. on Mondays.
