LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Veterans honored at Miller Heights

Miller Heights ES conducted its traditional Veterans Day program Nov. 11, which was heavy on student participation and patriotism, and recognition for the nearly 50 veterans in attendance.

Students participated in both narration and singing throughout, with solo and group performances by the fifth grade, Adyson Aguila, Ella and Ann Fiorini, Leo Silvius and Pragya Santra.

Honored guest and keynote speaker Rear Admiral Bradley Dunham was announced by principal Lisa Young. Dunham is Commander of the Naval Air Force Reserve and Deputy Commander of the Naval Air Force U.S. Pacific Fleet. Dunham engaged the students in a question and answer session, through which he described his role in the U.S. Navy and the Navy’s role in protecting America and American interests throughout the world.

The veterans in attendance were recognized and honored during the “Armed Forces Medley,” and their family ties with Miller Heights students were announced.

Letters written by the students in each grade were presented to veterans for transmittal to those currently serving in the armed forces.

After a moment of silence, teacher and veteran Louis Poczak and his son Chris played echo “Taps” to end the hour-long program.
