PHS wins seventh in a row

The Parkland High School football team turned it on in the second quarter to open a sizable cushion to finish off Whitehall 31-7 last Friday night in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Western Division game at Parkland School District Stadium.

The Trojans (8-1 overall, 6-0 EPC) got an opening-quarter touchdown, but led by only that lone score early in the second quarter, until they outscored the Zephyrs (3-6, 3-3) 21-7 in that second stanza to take control of the game and go into the locker room at halftime on top 28-7.

TJ Lawrence, who accounted for 151 of his team’s 226 rushing yards on the night, got the scoring going with a 29-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. Reid Andrush then recorded a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown from Osmany Guzman on back-to-back scores in the second quarter. Guzman then connected with Leo Dauberman from 37 yards away for a touchdown that capped the scoring in the second quarter. Doug Bell’s fourth quarter field goal was the final scoring of the contest.

Defensively, Preston Mertz came up with two interceptions and had five tackles. Lawrence led the unit with 10 tackles. Jaren Sanchez tallied nine tackles and Parker Kusko totaled seven tackles.

Guzman finished 15-for-20 for 195 yards and the two touchdowns. Dauberman had five receptions for 89 yards and a score, while Nassim Adams finished with four catches for 55 yards. The Trojans accounted for 421 total yards.

Parkland will conclude its regular season portion of its schedule against another team playing well, Emmaus, this Friday night from East Penn School District Stadium.

The District 11 6A Tournament, which will feature both of these teams, will begin the following weekend.
