Emmaus girls soccer team falls in semi

Emmaus High School girls soccer won its quarterfinal round game in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Tournament, 1-0, last Tuesday, Oct.15, at Memorial Field, but then fell to eventual champion, Central Catholic, 4-3, in the semifinal round two nights later at Bethlehem Area School District Stadium.

The Hornets finished the regular season with a 14-2-2 overall record and 13-2-1 mark in the conference, earning the fourth seed in the conference tournament.

Emmaus never had a lead in the game against the Vikettes and was behind by three goals twice, at 3-0 and 4-1 early on in the second half. But the Hornets never gave up and fought back to pull to within just one goal at 4-3 with a few minutes left.

Lizzie Bender tallied back-to-back goals within a span of just two minutes. Morgan Tandy recorded the other goal for Emmaus. Tandy and Giuliana Meyer both had an assist in the game. Ashley Stine finished with six saves in goal.

Central outshot Emmaus 10-7 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Emmaus earned the third seed in the District 11 Class 4A playoffs and will host the sixth seed, Whitehall, Wednesday night at Memorial Field in the quarterfinal round. Emmaus beat Whitehall in the second game of the 2024 season, 6-0 back on Sept. 27.

The winner of Wednesday’s quarterfinal will advance to next Tuesday’s semifinals against either No. 2 Parkland or No. 7 Freedom.
