The Emmaus High School field hockey team’s dominance of over the last three decades is been well known. And the quest for another one is well underway.
The top-seeded Green Hornets (21-1 overall) dispatched of the eighth seed Liberty 7-0 last Thursday afternoon in a District 11 3A quarterfinal round game at Memorial Field.
Autum Kernechel, Madi Lenig and Gracie Huffer all tallied two goals each and Sharlise Solano rounded out the scoring for Emmaus.
Kernechel got things going with an opening game goal on an assist by Lenig in the first quarter. Kernechel returned the favor by finding Lenig for a goal to begin things in the second quarter and then Kernechel finished off the scoring in the first half with a goal following an assist by Avery Burnett.
The Hornets led 3-0 at halftime.
Solano continued the scoring with a goal after intermission with a Lenig assist. Lenig tallied her second off a pass by Addison Povilaitis for the 5-0 lead after three quarters. Huffer then scored both of her goals in the fourth quarter with assists credited to Kernechel and Burnett.
Emmaus outshot the Hurricanes 42-0 and had 21 penalty corners to Liberty’s zero. Aiko Price and Emily Romano both saw time in the goal cage, but neither keeper needed to make a save.
Emmaus squared off with the fourth seed Parkland in the semifinals this past Tuesday night. That game was played after Press deadlines.
The winner will play either second seed Nazareth or third seed Easton in the championship game on Thursday night at Catasauqua High School. Emmaus recently beat the Red Rovers in the conference final.
