Anderson new township treasurer

At the Nov. 7 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, council meeting, council appointed Audrey Anderson to fill the township treasurer position. Longtime treasurer Vicky Roth retired last month. However, she will remain on the office staff as a part-time clerk.

The expectation is Anderson’s learning curve will be shortened with Roth and township Manager Melissa Wehr’s assistance to get up to speed quickly.

In other business, council approved the minutes of the Oct. 16 council meeting and the minutes of a special council budget meeting held Oct. 22.

An authorization to release final payment to Stonewood Landscaping was approved for the 2024 stormwater rehabilitation projects. Contract A was for $10,951 and contract B was for $12,480. The total for A and B was $23,432. An 18-month maintenance bond in the amount of $34,981 was approved.

Council adopted the 2024 Lehigh Valley Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. Since land use authority resides with municipalities, all local municipalities in Lehigh and Northampton counties are urged to review and adopt the plan.

In her township manager’s report, Wehr announced Hanover received $336,059 in grant money from the Local Share Account program for the construction of a pickle ball and basketball court at Sherwood Park, with the help of state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd.

This brings the total to more than $2 million in grants that have been secured by Wehr during her tenure as township manager, it was reported.

Wehr also reminded council the leaf collection began this week. Leaves are picked up by the public works department, usually on Mondays, weather permitting, and will continue until the end of November.

The next Hanover Township-Lehigh County, Council meeting is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the municipal building, 2202 Grove Road, Allentown.
