Upper Milford Historical Society to honor veterans Nov. 10

Officials in Upper and Lower Milford townships issued burn bans Oct. 21 and Oct. 29, respectively.
Bans will remain in place until further notice.
Lack of rain coupled with gusty winds have made for risky conditions.
“Be very cautious of flame, burning not recommended,” WFMZ’s Kelly McGlynn said in an online forecast Nov. 3.
Please take heed.
The Upper Milford Historical Society will host a veterans program 1-4 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Upper Milford Township municipal building, 5671 Chestnut St.
The event begins with a flag ceremony presented by the Emmaus Veterans Committee.
Cub Scout Pack 31 will collect old and/or worn flags for proper disposal. Exhibits, photographs and military uniforms also will be displayed.
Scouts will lead a closing flag ceremony, including the folding of the flag, 3:30 p.m.
On Nov. 9, Old Zionsville United Church of Christ, 5981 Fountain Road, will hold its annual bazaar and filled basket auction 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. New this year are a door prize drawing and a 50/50 raffle. Other highlights include a baked goods sale.
On Nov. 16, St. Peter’s Union Church, 7863 St. Peters Road, will host its fall bazaar 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shoppers are encouraged to browse the vendors, crafters and baked goods sale.
The church will host a Thanksgiving Eve service 7 p.m. Nov. 27. All are welcome.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, The Seed Farm invites four to six volunteers to give their time 1-3 p.m. Nov. 6 to help with a wood chip mulch project at East Side Food Pantry at Community Bike Works, 614 S. Carlisle St., Allentown.
Volunteers will help mulch around raised garden beds and trees. The project involves shoveling, dumping and raking wood chips around the beds and trees.

In a post to the township website, organizers thanked “all of the vendors, volunteers, attendees, businesses and more that came out to attend the festival in the rain/mist!” Sept. 28.

Friends of Southern Lehigh Public Library continue its Evening with Friends series 7 p.m. Nov. 6 with the program “A Soldier’s Civil War Christmas” at the library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley.
Historian Mike Jesberger will talk about what Christmas was like during the Civil War. There is a cost for tickets.
Southern Lehigh Library is the home library for Lower Milford Township residents.
Later this month at the library paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka will present their dinosaur adventure program 6:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 21.
The program will feature a triceratops skull discovered in 1996, rare fossils and an opportunity to help build a dinosaur.

The Upper Milford Township board of supervisors will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 7 and Nov. 21 at the township building, 5671 Chestnut St. There is also an online option.
The next Lower Milford Township board of supervisors meeting is scheduled 6:30 p.m. Nov. 21 at the township building, 7607 Chestnut Hill Road.
Lower Milford and Upper Milford township offices will be closed Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
