Judy (Gellis) Snyder of Washington Township has published a new book titled “Berksy Memories.”
The book tells the recollections of students who traveled on the steam train that ran back and forth between Reading and Slatington High School.
The “Bersky” was in operation from 1919 to 1949 and made 27 stops along the way.
Some of the local stops were Best Station, Emerald (Franklin), Germansville, Kempton, New Tripoli, Trexler and Wanamakers.
Many of the students attended reunions between 1947 and 2021 to celebrate this unique mode of transportation.
This historical book is available from the Slatington History Preservation Committee.
