WCSD names Fehnel district ambassador, assistant webmaster
Whitehall-Coplay School Board met twice in the month of October.
During the Oct. 14 meeting, the school board announced Andrew Fehnel has been appointed as the district ambassador as a teacher leadership role. This means Fehnel will now serve as the sole point of contact for district level communication, whether it be through social media, mass notifications, districtwide communication campaigns and branding. In hand with that, he will serve as the assistant webmaster and will be responsible for updating photos and content on the website and editing/adjusting necessary page content as needed.
The board also discussed plans for a backup generator for its transportation building to hopefully avoid any issues if there was another major power outage on campus. A portable multiuse generator is being looked into as an option, which would allow the district to have mobility and the option to turn it off once students and staff are no longer in the building.
During the Oct. 28 meeting, a Whitehall High School Student Council representative began with an update. WHS had its Homecoming football game against William Allen High School. The Zephyrs won 35-0. The Marching Zephyr Band had its home show in which 16 bands attended. WHS placed with a 91.7 score. A WHS Photography Club presentation was also given, showcasing photographs of Homecoming week festivities within the school.
The meeting continued with recognition of WHS students who have been recognized by the Merit Scholarship Corporation for their outstanding performance on the 2023 PSAT Merit Scholarship qualifying test. Three students were named “commended students.”
Student Neiv Sinh attended the meeting with his family. Sinh has been named a semifinalist in the 2025 Merit Scholarship program. He is among 16,000 semifinalists who have the opportunity to win among 6,870 national merit scholarships worth a total of $26 million to be awarded this spring.
“Thank you. I worked pretty hard for this, and I’m happy a lot of our students were commended this year. I hope I can go ahead and win that finalist designation,” Sinh told the board.
The next committee meeting will be 4 p.m. Nov. 11, and the next regular board meeting will be 7 p.m. Nov. 25.
