Event honors late NASD teacher
The family of the late Kim Davis coordinated a fundraising event to honor the memory of their beloved husband, father and grandfather Oct. 26 at Becky’s Drive-in Theatre, Berlinsville. Davis died Sept. 18.
Davis’ granddaughter Lyla Schneck coordinated the event with help from her family and her friend Matthew Kratzer. The plan was to have two movies shown at the outdoor drive-in theater. Funds raised from the sale of movie tickets and contributions will go in Davis’ name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Peaceable Kingdom animal shelter in Whitehall.
Other family members at the event included Davis’ wife Kathy, daughter Melissa Davis and other granddaughter Luci Schneck. A touching tribute of framed photos were arranged on a table to honor Davis.
Davis was a distinguished athlete at Northampton High School and became a much respected and actively involved teacher and coach in the Northampton Area School District. It was said he went above and beyond as an educator. He found time to volunteer in kids’ sports activities with the Northampton Athletic Association and more. He valued and spent time with his kids and grandchildren.
Davis was an animal lover, having pet dogs and he cared for a feral cat that hung out in his backyard. His kindness, energy and interest in others made an impact on many students he taught and people who knew him, it was said.
Lyla Schneck noted there are plans for another fundraising event that might be sponsored by a popular local restaurant. The Davis family is interested in using Davis’ legacy to raise funds for organizations that help others.
Becky’s Drive-in has a long history of holding fundraising events that serve the community.
