LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Country Meadows celebrates the ‘Dog Days of Summer’

Special to The Press

Owners, dogs and residents braved damp weather to enjoy Country Meadows of Allentown Retirement Community’s second annual canine parade Aug. 17.

Fifteen dogs turned out and were treated to Pup-A-Rita cocktails and homemade dog biscuits, baked with love by the residents.

Before the parade, the pups took part in an agility run and posed for selfies.

Prizes were awarded to Charlie for best dressed and Little Dude as best dressed runner-up; Ziggy, who jumped unexpectedly through the portable picture frame, for most athletic; Rusty for best tail wag; Roxie for best kisser and Dexter for most obedient.

Winners also include Peaceable Kingdom and Sammy’s Kindness Corner.

Peaceable Kingdom is a local no-kill shelter, which in addition to resident baked homemade biscuits, will receive pet items collected as part of the event.

Attendees also donated school supplies to be distributed through Sammy’s Kindness Korner, a community outreach supported by Stephens Funeral Home.

Country Meadows residents, staff, community volunteers and lovable canines came together for fun, food and community service — a winning combination.
