Catty downed by PHS
Catasauqua’s script for their seventh consecutive loss last Friday at Palmerton wasn’t much different from the other ones.
The Roughies were in a tight battle with Palmerton throughout the first half, but they couldn’t sustain their execution for the second half, as they fell to the host Blue Bombers, 28-13.
As they have the entire season, the Roughies had trouble stopping the run, as Palmerton rushed for 307 yards.
With the loss, Catty finished the regular season with an overall 3-7 record. Their defeat also cost them a shot at gaining a possible district playoff berth. The Roughies will have a three-week break before they meet Northampton for their annual Thanksgiving Day tilt.
“Friday was a lot like that last half of the season for us,” said first-year head coach Joe Henrich. “We showed some great signs and we moved the ball well at times, but unfortunately continued to hurt ourselves in critical situations.
“We were up 7-0 and again 13-7, but gave up a TD late in the first half and were down 14-13 at half. In the second half we struggled to find any consistency and ultimately gave them too many chances to open up the score.”
Sophomore starting quarterback Aiden Reilly had thrown for 152 yards with two touchdowns, a 21-yarder to Josiah Lafond and a 46-yarder to Dylan Pacheco before he left in the third quarter with a shoulder injury. Senior running back Jordan Bradshaw finished the game at quarterback, and he also rushed for a team-high 99 yards.
Reilly believed his team was executing well when he got hurt, and he also is confident about the team’s future, notably after their 3-0 start this year.
“We obviously started off very strong going 3-0 and then things didn’t go our way,” he said. “We have a very young and talented team with a lot of skill position guys coming back next year.
“Overall, we had some really good moments especially in the beginning of the year, and I’m proud of the team even though we didn’t accomplish what we all wanted, which was winning districts.”
Henrich also sees a promising future.
‘The kids played hard but we just made too many mistakes,” added Henrich. “I am proud of our growth throughout the year even though our record does not reflect that.”
