At the North Catasauqua Borough Council Oct. 21 meeting, resident Julie Biechy asked for an update on the request for signage at the intersection of Howertown Road and Willow Way. This was a follow-up to requests made at the September meeting.
Police Chief Chris Wolfer explained he initiated the process for that location with the state authorities. They would be responsible for deciding if either stop signs or traffic lights are needed, depending on the situation.
Wolfer went on to explain extensive monitoring of that intersection would be required before the state submission. This will involve analyzing statistics such as peak traffic hours, pedestrian volume, school crossings and crash exposures. Reportedly, three major accidents within a year would expedite the state decision, but lacking this, a more intensive study is required.
Wolfer also reported on various activities the department is hosting, including, but not limited to, the medical marijuana program, CPR training and Narcan distribution and locations. He also reported on the successful Coffee with the Cops event Oct. 14 at Taylor Roasted Coffeehouse, Northampton. The department also held its annual trunk-or-treat event Oct. 20 at North Catasauqua William J. Albert Memorial Park, 701 Grove St.
In other business, Councilwoman Michele Hazzard reported on several past and pending community activities. The recent Autumnfest was considered a substantial success. The committee is now looking ahead to the annual tree-lighting ceremony Dec. 1, the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
At the end of the meeting, council moved into an executive session to discuss legal issues.
