STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Brycen Reilly is in the fifth grade at Farmersville ES. Brycen is an outstanding student both in and out of the classroom. He’s working toward his Brown Belt in Karate, participates in sports like baseball, basketball and lacrosse, and is involved in the Lighthouse Committee and Boy Scouts. Brycen also took part in a special CCD ceremony and the St. Jude walk-a-thon. Musically, he’s learning three instruments this year trombone, piano and violin, while also participating in chorus, Showstoppers, band and orchestra. Brycen is not only dedicated to his activities, but also a kind and helpful peer to his classmates. We’re proud of what he’s achieving.
STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Wendy Steckert works in Dining Services at Farmersville ES. Ms. Steckert is a dedicated BASD employee who is caring and wonderful to the students she serves. She is professional, caring, and has a lot of integrity. She is a great example of what we look for in our Cafeteria Crew! Ms. Steckert’s hard work and positive attitude have made a lasting impact on students, parents, and staff alike, and we are truly fortunate to have her as part of our BASD family! Thank you, Ms. Steckert, for your years of commitment and service.
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Dr. Raele Donetha Loy (nee Robison) is a 2009 graduate of Liberty HS. Raele is a Postdoctoral Fellow for the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her BA and MS degrees in Speech-Language Pathology from West Chester University and the University of South Florida, respectively, and her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Florida. Raele was the recipient of the F99-KOO National Institute of Health Blueprint and Brain Initiative Diversity Specialized Predoctoal to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience (D-Span) Award. BASD Proud of you. Raele!

SPECIAL SCREENING: We invite staff and community members to a viewing of “The Right to Read,” a powerful documentary that explores the critical issue of literacy in America. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion led by two of our own BASD students. Kareem Weaver, NAACP activist and co-founder of FULCRUM, will be doing a short video introduction for our film screening. Act 48 Hours are available for this event. Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Northeast MS.

INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE: We are looking for some fall Conservation Education Interns! This position is open to undergraduate, graduate and recently graduated students. This internship is designed for anyone pursuing a career in: conservation, biology, environmental science, education, or another related field. Preferred candidates would have a background or interest in education and/or environmental sciences or biology related field. During their time here, interns will have the opportunity to work alongside Education Specialists and get hands-on experience with Ambassador Animals at an Aza-accredited zoo!
