BETHLEHEM social calendar October 30

WHITEFIELD HOUSE: Northampton County Parks & Recreation will conclude its 50th anniversary program series with a special presentation in partnership with the Moravian Historical Society at the Whitefield House at 214 E. Center Street, Nazareth on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. Tom McCullough, assistant archivist of the Moravian Archives in Bethlehem, will present an illustrated talk and chronicle the “Upper Places” situated on the historic Nazareth Tract. Drawing on archival materials and collection highlights, the presentation will shed light on early Moravian settlements, including Gracedale.

PHOTO EXHIBIT: International photographer, Luke Wynne will be exhibiting his photographs titled view / FINDER at the Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda Gallery from Nov. 12 to Dec. 19. There will be an artist reception on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Rotunda Gallery is located at 10 E. Church St. Gallery hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Almost a half century ago John Szarkowski (Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art) published his book, “The Photographer’s Eye.” This seminal work holds together today as well as it did 48 years ago. Here is the opening of his introduction, “This book is an investigation of what photographs look like, and why they look that way. The invention of photography provided a radically new picture-making process – a process based not on synthesis but on selection.” lndeed.
