Two Emmaus doubles teams win EPC titles
The Emmaus High School girls tennis team began postseason play with individual tournaments over the past few weeks. The Hornets moved on to the team portion of the postseason Monday when they beat Freedom in a District 11 quarterfinal match.
After going 14-4 in the regular season, Emmaus competed in the East Penn Conference Championships on Sept. 27 at Freedom.
Two Emmaus doubles teams finished first in their bracket at the EPC Tournament. Both were seeded second and went on to beat the top seed in the finals of their flight.

Three Emmaus doubles teams competed in the district tournament on Oct. 3.
DiGiacomo and Hillegas faced top seeded Lynn and teammate Stephanie Zheng in the first round and were eliminated. Lynn and Zheng won this year’s doubles title, beating all four opponents in straight sets.
Stetz and Tranguch entered the doubles tournament as the No. 9 seed, but dropped a close first-round match to a team from Liberty, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Kaufman and Phy were seeded sixth for district doubles and won their first match 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 6-4 before falling to the No. 3 seeded team in the second round.
The Hornets opened play in the District 11 team tournament with a win over Freedom, 4-1.
Emmaus earned the No. 4 seed for team districts and hosted the Patriots Monday. Kaufman, Phy and Saab won singles matches Monday, while DiGiacomo and Hillegas teamed up for a win at No. 3 doubles.
