Three honored for their contributions in Salisbury Township

Three Salisbury Township residents have been honored for their contributions.

Honored at the volunteer recognition dinner Oct. 17 in the municipal building meeting room attended by township officials, friends and family were Charles Beck, John Eberhard and Edward Delviscio.

Beck was lauded as longtime chairman of the township planning commission.

Eberhard and Delviscio were honored for their cleanup efforts of Walking Purchase Park.

“I’ve lived in here for 40 years, 37 of those Charlie was on the planning commission,” Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners President Debra Brinton said.

“Charlie is a caring person and loves the township he lives in,” Brinton said before presenting Beck with a commemorative plaque. “You are a wealth of knowledge,” Brinton said.

“We decided that there were two gentlemen who were helping us and they need to be recognized,” Commissioner Heather Lipkin said before presenting Eberhard and Delviscio with commemorative plaques.

“They for over two years have been cleaning up one of our parks on a regular basis,” Lipkin said. “And they have made a difference. People notice it.

“It goes a long way to making the park a more friendly place,” Lipkin said.

Walking Purchase Park is an approximate 500-acre urban wilderness administered by the township, Allentown and Lehigh County in eastern Salisbury, north of Susquehanna Street between Lehigh Mountain and the Lehigh River.

Eberhard said he has noticed a reduction of illegal dumping in the park since he and Delviscio started their cleanup.

Delviscio said he and Eberhard have cleaned up the park 20 times to date.

Township commissioners voted 4-0, with one commissioner absent at the Sept. 26 meeting, to approve resolutions recognizing township volunteers Beck, Eberhard and Delviscio.

The resolutions for Beck, Eberhard and Delviscio stated in part that the board of commissioners recognize “long-standing volunteers serving our community for many years” and “applauds and extends the highest level of appreciation and gratitude” for their “unselfish volunteer efforts and sacrifice in serving our community” as “nominated by peers of our community” for their “outstanding dedication of volunteer work for the residents of the township of Salisbury.”

The 7 p.m. Oct. 23 township planning commission meeting is canceled.

The township board of commissioners meets 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the meeting room of the municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
