Improved Wi-Fi service approved at Macungie Institute

During the Oct. 21 Macungie Borough Council meeting, several items of new business were discussed. Administration requested a laptop to replace the computer at Macungie Institute. The amount of the purchase is $1,648. This was approved.

Administration also requested an upgraded Wi-Fi switch at Macungie Institute which will provide a secure network switch for Wi-Fi access and add access points in the auditorium and hallway ceiling for better service throughout the building. The $2,699.97 cost was approved.

The memorial requested by the Friends of Macungie Institute for Robert Young was approved. This memorial will be displayed at the Flower Garden.

The new Macungie Institute Manager Vicki Kocher gave her first quarterly report. There were a total of 66 events at the institute during the third quarter. There were senior card games, committee meetings, borough meetings, an Emmaus Library event and a Friends of the Macungie Institute event.

Continuing events for 2025 include drama and Zumba events, Boy Scouts, Macungie Institute and historical society events. Upcoming events include book club meetings, Pinochle and Mahjong. Also included are the Macungie Institute Holiday Tea, a senior luncheon and a Christmas bus tour. Toys for Tots, Angel Tree, wine and cheese event, children’s story time and a Super Bowl hoagie fundraiser are also upcoming events.

The military heroes banner program is also being coordinated with the borough office.

Macungie Ambulance reported 374 calls for service last month with 28 of these calls being in Macungie.

Information requested by Tim Romig, a business owner in Macungie, was provided. This information was provided to the zoning hearing board for the Mavis Tire project at 299 E. Main St. The information pertains to impervious areas which is 18,238 feet.

There was an executive session held for legal, personnel and real estate matters.

None
