Hornet girls volleyball team preps for districts

The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team has had enough of seeing rival Parkland in the last week. The two teams met twice in that time span, once in the regular season finale last Wednesday night and then three days later in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference quarterfinal round, both matches at Parkland High School and both were 3-0 sweeps.

But the Hornets still had a successful first regular season under first-year head coach Jessica Olang. They finished the season 13-5 overall and 12-4 in the conference.

“I thought the girls had a great regular season,” said Olang. “They really bought in and took to my teachings this season. I’m proud of the way they performed both in matches and at practice. They worked really hard to better themselves and be great student-athletes.”

The Trojans, who finished the regular season 13-5 and 12-4, won last Wednesday by scores 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 and then won the quarterfinal round matchup 25-22, 25-12, 25-17.

“Parkland is a great team and they showed it in those matches,” Olang said. “They did a great job and played hard, as did we. We might be seeing them again in districts so we need to do a better job of connecting on our points and our offensive and defensive sets.”

Emmaus will now prepare for the District 11 4A tournament and will more than likely be a top-four seed and host a first-round match.
