Emmaus field hockey stays unbeaten in EPC
The Emmaus High School field hockey team continued to defeat any Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opponent that has been matched up with them throughout the 2024 regular season as the Green Hornets won both of their games last week.
Emmaus first took down Nazareth 5-0 in conference play last Wednesday night at home on senior night. The Green Hornets followed that up with a 6-0 nonconference win over Downingtown West last Saturday afternoon.
In the win over the Blue Eagles, Autum Kernechel and Gracie Huffer both led the attack with two goals apiece. Addison Povilaitis rounded out the scoring with a goal. The Hornets scored in each quarter with two coming in the final frame.
Avery Burnett recorded two assists and each of Morgann Orobono and Madi Lenig added an assist. Aiko Price started at goal, but was not forced into action. Emmaus outshot Nazareth 21-0 and had a 12-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Against the Whippets, both Sadie Nawarynski and Huffer found the back of the net twice to pace the offense. Kernechel and Povilaitis rounded out the scoring with a goal each. Kernechel tallied two assists and Emmy Horner, Nawarynski and Sharlise Solano all recorded an assist.
Price finished with a season-high 13 saves and Orobono earned a defensive save. The Green Hornets held a slight edge in shots, 17-14, and had 13 corners to Downingtown West’s eight.
Emmaus, which improved to 16-1 overall and 12-0 in the conference, finished up the regular season portion of its schedule with a conference game at Parkland Tuesday.
The EPC Tournament begins with the quarterfinal round this Saturday at Memorial Field.
