Coplay mayor
Stephen J. Burker, 74, of Coplay, died unexpectedly Oct. 19, 2024, at his home. He was the husband of Flossie “Carol” J. (Fritchman) Burker for 34 years.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Stephen F. and Hilda (Nickischer) Burker.
He worked for many years for A&B Meats in Allentown. He went on to work in customer service with PPL Electric until his retirement.
He loved his town of Coplay and could often be seen wearing his “Coplay Proud” shirts. He served on the Coplay Borough Council for nine years and was the mayor of Coplay for three years. He was instrumental in organizing many borough events, including Coplay Community Days.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Tinamarie Martin and husband Ricky; two stepdaughters, Ramona Pinkowsky and Angela Young; a stepson, John Bowen; two brothers, David and wife JoAnn and Bryan; a sister, Therese Royer and husband David; two grandchildren, Stephen Burker and Alicia Steigerwalt; a great-grandson, Kayson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen M.
There will be a calling time 11 a.m.-1 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service, Oct. 25 at the funeral home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay.
