October, a month often associated with monsters and witches, also holds a significant presence of pink. This seemingly ironic combination stems from the fact that breast cancer, an adversary to many in the Lehigh Valley, is acknowledged in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
In light of this, the Pink Pumpkins Coins 4 Chemo Foundation has forged alliances with local businesses to raise awareness, honor those who have succumbed to the disease and support those valiantly battling this formidable foe known as cancer.
The foundation is hosting a dine and donate costume party, set for 4-11 p.m. Oct. 27 at Flying Pig Tavern and Tap, 1313 Center St., Bethlehem. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes in different categories.
The foundation also seeks to expand its ranks by inviting individuals to visit one of its participating establishments. There, you may receive a ribbon, which serves as a poignant symbol of remembrance, to honor a cherished loved one during the month of October.
Visit one of the establishments any time during October to buy a ribbon to hang in honor of a loved one: Tri-Boro Sportsmen Club, 2110 Canal St., Northampton; Alliance Volunteer Fire Company, 717 Washington Ave., Northampton; Sam Owens Restaurant and Bar, 128 Chestnut St., Coplay; Race Street Bar and Grill, 429 Race St., Catasauqua; Valentino’s Restaurant, 15492 Kutztown Road, Kutztown; Flying Pig; Hanover Place, Allentown; Beef Baron, 2366 Catasauqua Road, Bethlehem; Kospia Farms, 2288 State St., Alburtis.
