LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

MORAVIAN ACADEMY NEWS By Hanning Yan

The students at Moravian Academy have settled successfully into the beginning of another year. The leaves of the trees on campus have just begun to turn orange and red, and students can occasionally be seen with puffer jackets to fend off the cold weather.

The fall sports seasons are rapidly drawing to a close. Though the girls field hockey team’s season has ended, the team fought hard. Despite losing 11 players going into the season, many ninth graders rose to the challenge and stepped into big roles. Captain Grayson Domzalski (12) says, “I’m proud of my girls this season. Special shoutout to captain Rylee Simmons (12), who stepped in as our goalie. The season wouldn’t have been possible without that sacrifice. The future is looking bright for the Lions.”

Moravian’s golf team has done particularly well this season, winning the District XI championship at the Steel Club. Mara Dubacher (11) and Emma Xu (12) placed first and second respectively, and Collin Schreiber (11) placed first. They played in the Sub-Regional PIAA Team event Oct. 16. Both the boys and girls soccer teams have also had amazing seasons, and we wish them success as they played in the Colonial League Tournament recently.

Beyond fall sports, students, families and alumni had a great time at Country Fair, a beloved Moravian Academy tradition. The prior night, brave singers and actors showcased their talents at Open Mic Night. Some students even tried out standup comedy sets. The next morning, runners and walkers participated in the 5K race. Fairgoers were happy to enjoy a sunny day, and students could be seen fundraising for organizations like the Black Student Union, DECA, and Christian Community Club with cookies, snacks and creative products like glitter tattoos. A variety of food options included the Indian Food Booth, a longtime favorite. Performances from Coda Red, Dance Team and students on the Main Stage were enjoyed by all.

Arts students at Moravian have also been busy. A new school alma mater was debuted by the Merle-Smith Campus’ Camerata, who traveled singing throughout the Moravian campuses.

Coffeehouse, Moravian’s annual variety show, is on its way. The sounds of performers can be heard in the halls, and auditions this week have been nerve-wracking and thrilling. Theater director Brooke Harrsch’s announcement of the winter musical ended months of discussion and happy speculation. Students screamed and shouted as she tore Playbill printouts off a whiteboard on the stage, and in the weeks since they can be heard in parking lots and classrooms whispering about their dream roles.

As Moravian students prepare for a busy fall, we can’t wait to see what happens next. Go Lions.
