PRESS PHOTOS COURTESY IRTLehigh Valley Greenways awarded a $4,000 mini grant to Ironton Rail Trail, for a 50/50 reimbursement of the cost to purchase and install bench slats, during a Sept. 10 ceremony. Lehigh Valley Greenways is dedicated to the conservation of and connection to natural resources in the Lehigh Valley region.

Nine IRT volunteers help with the installation of plastic composite slats on 10 memorial benches. Project leader Joe Bundra orchestrated the wood slat removal, cleaning and painting of the bench posts and slat installation. Ray Deutsch routed the headboards for the plaques.

Participants in the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley begin their 8-K race Sept. 14 on the IRT.
