Pates stay unbeaten at Kids

Each week is a different chapter in the confines of the EPC season and Freedom keeps writing their winning ways.

The Patriots improved to 8-0 on the year with a 42-21 victory at Northampton last week.

Chase Walker had himself a night throwing for 208 yards and two touchdowns and Aaron Beete showed why he’s one of the best running backs in a talented pool of EPC backfield mates, rushing for 176 yards and three touchdowns on the night.

Head coach Jason Roeder was happy his group took home the win, but like always, understands there’s always things that need to be worked on.

“There were some things we would have liked to clean up,” he said. “It was a chippy game and we played into it in the end, but we did a lot of good things too.”

The Pates now have a major test against a bullish Easton squad (7-1) this Friday at home in the premier showdown of the EPC slate.

Easton is fresh off a 49-20 romp over Liberty last week and the Rovers might be one of the most balanced teams in the league.

“They got all the pieces and are playing really well,” said Roeder. “They have balance with two really good running backs and a duel threat quarterback with some big guys on the outside.”

Liberty got a dose of what Easton brought to the table last week, as they controlled the line of scrimmage, rushing for 362 yards on the night.

Dorian Thomas led the Rovers ground attack with 141 yards and three scores last week and quarterback Cole Ordway was slippery and efficient, passing for 136 yards and two scores and tacking on another 112 yards on the ground.

In a season where Freedom has already handled the likes of Parkland and Nazareth, playing a red hot Easton team might be their biggest challenge on the calendar.

“It’s going to be the same week of preparation like every game,” Roeder said. “The kids are smart enough to understand and just take a day-by-day approach and play our best game.”
