LHS falls, awaits districts

The EPC field hockey tournament kicked off on Saturday and Liberty found itself in the unenviable position of facing Emmaus in the league opener.

The Hurricanes sneaked into the tournament as the eighth seed and fell to the top-seeded Hornets 11-0.

Liberty (9-10) qualified for districts and the EPC tournament with a 1-0 win over Freedom last week in their regular season finale, as Ellis Corr’s first quarter goal was good enough to uphold the result.

The EPC tournament continues this week with the semifinals taking place on Tuesday at Whitehall with Emmaus taking on Parkland at 7 p.m. and Easton squaring off against Nazareth at 5 p.m.

Freedom (8-9-1) won three of their last four games to make a run for postseason qualification, but fell a game short of qualifying for districts with their loss to Liberty last week.

The EPC finals are set for Thursday night at a time and location not yet named and districts will kick off next week.
