Harriers prep for postseason

Cross country’s regular season came to a conclusion for Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, and Liberty on Oct. 8 at Louise Moore Park in Easton where Freedom’s Dylan Boyle won the boys meet with a time of 16:15, and Liberty’s Katie Drabouski won the girls meet with a time of 19:14.

Liberty’s girls defeated Freedom, 21-35, Becahi, 15-50, and Northampton, 18-39, and lost to Nazareth, 29-27, and Easton, 29-25.

Freedom’s girls were winners over Becahi, 15-50, and Northampton, 24-34, and lost to Nazareth, 42-16, and Easton, 48-15.

Freedom’s boys topped Liberty, 19-37, Becahi, 18-42, and Northampton, 15-50, tied Easton, 28-28, and lost to Nazareth, 32-26.

Liberty’s boys defeated Becahi, 23-34, and Northampton, 15-50, and lost to Nazareth, 45-17, and Easton, 42-18.

Teams also celebrated senior night after the meet.

“It’s special to me because this is my last regular season race, and I’ve been doing cross country since seventh grade. It means a lot,” said Freedom’s Eric Wu, who placed 17th with a time of 18:02.

“There were one or two kids ahead of me, and I tried to stick with them toward the end, and I knew I had a little more in me, so I used my kick and passed them. Today, I think I ran my best race. I had an amazing start, and I tried to stick with my teammate. To run my heart out and give 100 percent felt great. I really like this course because most of it’s flat, and the finish is on the pavement, which I really like because it’s similar to a track. The end really benefited me.”

Boys who also placed in the top 20 were Freedom’s Brayden Boyle, fourth in 16:36, Becahi’s Mekhi Britt, fifth in 16:39, Freedom’s Ryan Haas, ninth in 17:38, Liberty’s Joshua Cazares, 10th in 17:39, and Liberty’s Ethan Caine, 19th in 18:05.

“I know I passed at least two people at the last 50 meters or so,” said Caine. “It’s not the easiest course but the hills aren’t that bad compared to some other courses like Parkland or DeSales, so it’s pretty middle-of-the-pack. I tend to go pretty fast on the start and then drop a couple places, and then pick them back up throughout the race. I’m in the group of people who can drop a couple places and get to states, so I’m going to try and do that.”

Liberty’s Elizabeth McClarin took second place in the girls race with a time of 19:32.

Liberty’s Emma Haas came in 13th in 21:56, Becahi’s Rio Stoudt was 14th in 22:00, Freedom’s Taylor Vidumsky placed 16th in 22:23, Freedom’s Teagan Frederickson came in 18th in 22:30, and Freedom’s Amelia Holden was 20th in 22:32.
