It’ll be the third and final showdown between Liberty and Bethlehem Catholic this season on the volleyball court and the proverbial rubber match gives the winner a shot at the EPC title.
Both teams squared off in Tuesday’s EPC semifinals at Whitehall with the winner advancing to Thursday’s championship against either Central Catholic or Parkland.
After Becahi (16-2) defeated Liberty early in the season, the Hurricanes (15-2) evened the series with a win in five games on September 30, setting up this intriguing showdown between two of the city’s and conference’s best programs this year.
“There is no underestimating Liberty with their track record,” said Becahi head coach Jessica Attieh. “This is arguably one of the most important games we will play thus far. After losing our last meeting, we’re eager to play Liberty again. We knew this would end up being the match up and we are ready for another competitive game.”
Liberty had little trouble dispatching Pleasant Valley in their EPC opener, sweeping them in three games. Becahi needed four games to wipe Nazareth out of the tournament over the weekend.
Now Attieh hopes her squad can make the tweaks needed to advance to the conference championship.
“I would say we are going in with the same mindset but different strategy after meeting last time,” she said of playing Liberty. “After re-watching our game, we found the areas that we need to work on as a team to make us stronger and hope that it makes us successful this time around.”
